The impact of Jacob Markstrom being traded to the New Jersey for the HABS

First of all I like to thank Martine McGuire very much for informing me of the trade as it impact the HABS with with the Devils when they traded goaler Jake Allen to the Devils on March 8,2024. A tip of my hat to you Martine

I won’t go into details of the trade sending Jacob Markstrom to the New Jersey Devils from the Calgary Flames, but just focus on the impact it has on the HABS,

When the HABS traded Jake Allen to the New Jerrsey Devils on 8,2024 they got a Conditional 3rd round draft pick for 2025,That third round draft can become a 2nd round draft pick in 2025 if the conditions are made they are as follows.

Conditions:

Upgrades to 2025 2nd round pick if Allen plays in 40 or more 2024-25 games and if the club that Allen is a member of qualifies for the playoffs in 2024-25.

Depending on how many games Jacob Markstrom plays could cut into how many games Jake Allen gets into.

HABS GM Kent Hughes can do nothing to stop the Devils from making player moves if it means it will mean the HABS get the 3rd round draft pick instead of the 2nd he would want,.

When the trade was made GM Hughes knew the Devils can make other player moves that can impact what draft pick the HABS acquire. The HABS traded Jake Allen to the Devils as they wanted to stop carrying three goalers on their roster. All three goalers did have to clear waivers to assigned to the Laval Rocket of the AHL and we all know the likely hood of the happening where none someone would have claimed whatever goaler was waivers and the HABS would have had no return on their asset , so Hughes made the best deal possible.
